Critique Assignment
(50 points)
The Templates folder contains two versions of a simple stack called Golden Age 1 and Golden Age 2. These stacks are intended to introduce the user to the major Russian writers of the 19th century. The first is a very simple, basic application, the second is a "new, improved" version. Write a critique of the two stacks.
You may wish to take the approach of a software reviewer:
evaluate the new "release" in comparison to the old one
explain the new features and comment on their usefulness
exclaim about things you really like
complain about things you dont like
expose uncorrected bugs, typos
make suggestions for further improvements, etc
You should consider the LiveCode capabilities and techniques used, but also evaluate larger design and usefulness issues. Although the second version is claimed to be an improvement over the first, you should not assume it is perfect. Do not hesitate to point out the flaws you find or suggest needed improvements.
Spend some effort on your writing. Your readers are expecting thoughtful and insightful observations, with well-supported arguments and clear examples. Writing quality is a factor in grading as well as content.
Use a word processor. Microsoft Word is available in any of the computer labs to write up your critique. Be sure to spell check your work and proofread it carefully. Such writing "mechanics" are also considered in the grading.
Put a copy of your completed critique in the Assignment Drop folder before the beginning of class on the due date.
There exist some other notes which can help guide your evaluation. Feel free to examine them and incorporate them into your critique: Critique Handout
