What is the definition of the word "convention"? How would
this apply to computer interface conventions?
Before the next class period, sit down at a computer and make a list
of as many interface conventions as you notice. You'll be surprised at
the amount of "conventional" knowledge you have about how a graphical
user interface works (or should work.) Pay attention to things like the
following:
- using the mouse
- finding things on the hard drive or in your document
- opening documents
- getting help
- using menus
